Cheap Car Hire at Dubai Airport (DXB): How to Get the Best Deal in 2026

By Motus Rentals Team · 2026-05-29 · 6 min read

Skip the airport counter queues and 15% surcharges. Here's how to save up to 40% on car hire at Dubai International Airport.

Dubai Airport Car Hire — The Smart Way

Over 90 million passengers pass through Dubai International Airport (DXB) every year, and a huge proportion need a hire car on arrival. But the on-airport counters from the big brands often carry a 15–20% airport surcharge plus hidden CDW upsells. Here's how to avoid that.

Option 1: Free Meet & Greet Delivery (Recommended)

Independent operators like Motus Rentals deliver your car directly to the arrivals hall at:

Terminal 1 (international, most carriers)

Terminal 2 (FlyDubai, regional)

Terminal 3 (Emirates)

Al Maktoum International (DWC) (low-cost carriers)

You skip every counter queue, every shuttle bus, and every airport surcharge. Total cost: AED 0 extra.

Option 2: On-Airport Counter Pickup

Faster if you don't book ahead — but more expensive. Expect:

15–20% airport surcharge baked into the rate

Aggressive insurance upsells (often AED 50–100/day extra)

Long queues in peak periods (December, Eid, school holidays)

Cheapest Cars at Dubai Airport (2026)

| Vehicle | Daily (AED) | 7-day (AED) | Best For | |---|---|---|---| | Nissan Sunny | 79 | 449 | Couples, city driving, business | | Mitsubishi ASX | 149 | 849 | Small families, light luggage | | Toyota Prado | 399 | 2,299 | Desert trips, large families | | Mercedes E-Class | 549 | 3,199 | VIPs, business travellers |

5 Tips to Save Money on DXB Car Hire

1. Book 7+ days ahead — saves around 12–18%. 2. Hire for 7 days instead of 6 — the weekly rate is usually cheaper than 6 daily rates. 3. Skip the airport counter — choose a meet-and-greet delivery operator. 4. Pay in AED, not your home currency — avoid dynamic currency conversion fees. 5. Use a credit card with low FX fees — debit cards may not be accepted for the deposit.
